This is academic nonsense. You could trace the same paths to manipulation from Catholicism, Communism and especially Zionism which has had an order of magnitude far greater impact on Americans than anything in history. Indeed, the recent election of a populist president and a new ‘mandate’ only cemented Zionist control of American politics. Academicians kill my, all of us, literally.
I’m not disputing that Catholicism and Zionism (and I’d add Evangelical Christianity too) have had their own propaganda and successes - that doesn’t contradict the underlying point at all, it actually strengthens it - because the means of propaganda they used were capitalist ones - corporate media, corporate sponsored politicians, and aims which also included gaining money and legislation in their favour.
For the sake of brevity I had to cut out a section on how corporate heads also carried out plans to target churches and popular preachers too, to promote a positive view of capitalism. We have the minutes and receipts, but because my short article was just an overview it was another of the many details I missed out.
Beyond the fevered imagination of people like McCarthy I doubt Soviet Leninism (of which I’m no fan) had much impact - not that it wouldn’t have tried - as it lacked easy access to the same channels and was a convenient ‘communist’ bogeyman to be used within the prevailing propaganda. But I’d be interested if you can show me the evidence to the contrary.
Good question! This needs an article in itself - I have lots of ideas of transition - I don’t think we need to rip up or replace everything - many practical things already work, they just need to work more fairly and without oppressive power structures and without them being restricted by ability to pay.
I’d be happy to see a transition brought about through or alongside Syndicalism - that is turning workplaces fully Socialist - with workers managing and owning the means of production - that is potentially in line with a transition to a a stateless, moneyless, classless, propertyless, hierarchyless world.
However, that is Socialism despite the state and in opposition to the state. When it comes to state Socialism I don’t think that kind of system - which still relies on hierarchy, force and ownership - could ever achieve the ideals of communism or even really of socialism because its power structure will always undermine and keep that those ideals from being achieved. Does that make sense?
Absolutely makes sense and I agree. I look forward to the article. Where are you located? Interested to know how your experience with government has shaped your ideas… also, Do you ever do interviews?
I grew up in Canada, lived in America, and now call the U.K. home. While I've been fortunate enough to avoid the worst impacts of bad government policies, I've watched them hurt people close to me who were poor or marginalised. My first real wake-up call about power and injustice came from seeing religious leaders abuse their authority while claiming to uphold high ideals. But I've seen the best of people too when systems, fears and insecurities haven't been pushing them in other directions.
I'd be happy to take part in a good natured interview. I've had someone else ask me about coming on their podcast recently, and expect to post a link to that if they decide to make it available, but of course there is so much to discuss, even if I'm not sure how entertaining I'll be.
Awesome. I’m in the thick of mom life with baby and toddler but in a year or so I hope to have more space for my writing and creative work and would love to interview you. I’ve found your writing very helpful
Motherhood, for all its blessings, can be a lot to juggle! Take your time and when you have more time I’d be happy to be interviewed, and I’ll see what I can do to keep being helpful too (& let me know if you ever have any ideas you’d like to see me develop further).

Do you think there’s a viable argument for socialism opposed to communism except for during the transition?
