I found your treatment of this topic to be interesting, informative and intriguing. Thank you for producing and sharing your considered thoughts on the self-serving philosophy of Conservatism with us. Agreed on all points. The term “Conservative” seems merely a convenient cover used by crazy, self-entitled people who are deeply delusional and chronically selfish to the point of Nilisim.

In my opinion, at the heart of conservatism is the belief that some people are inherently better than others. Which is why they bristle when you mention privilege. They aren't privileged, their just... better.

This is the heart of their religions as well. Mine is the right, mighty and righteous religion. The only true church. Most of them have never read the book, it's just a brand to them.

And this is why they fall for Trump's shtick. His Superpower is getting away with pretending to always win and never lose.

They identify as Christians so they can get away with pretending to always be right and never wrong.

They identify as MAGA so they can get away with pretending to always win and never lose.

It's all play pretend.

They choose this illusion every day, at the expense of humanity and our ecosystem.

It's pretty gross if you ask me.

Anyway, great post.

That definitely aligns with the idea of privileged people often believing they deserve their advantages & mistaking their luck (even the luck of birth) as somehow an indication of their worthiness (and even others unworthiness if they don't share the same position).

It's a kind of blindness, and I think it comes from their insecurity - because somewhere in the back of their minds maybe they know they don't deserve more than someone else, so they have to justify it, or because they are scared of losing what they have if others deserve it too.

Agreed.

I think it also has a lot to do with their indoctrination. I say this from my own experience. I was raised by ultra conservative Christians, and it literally took decades to dig some of that conditioning out. I'm still working on it every week with a therapist.

When I say patriarchy is poison, I mean it.

The generational trauma caused by those beliefs is impossible to overstate.

But yes.

Your original assertion that the purpose of conservatism is to protect and maintain privilege is 100% accurate.

I was just hoping to add a little context.

I can't wait to read your thoughts about Liberalism. Keep it up.

Glad you enjoyed it! I have about eight more episodes planned in this series, including one on Liberals. I’m a bit nervous about putting my voice out there, but mostly because I don’t like it rather than worrying about anonymity. (I even sped it up so people wouldn’t have to spend so long listening to me!)

You are right of course - conservatives and liberals share some aspects of their world views, even if one group seems less accepting and the other seems more compassionate (on some issues). In the end the commitment to the same system ultimately undermines any good intentions, as they are thwarted by the need to maintain power.
